Assets of Digital Transformation

Leadership

The CEO is the one who must guide the change in the company, communicating its importance to stakeholders and possible shareholders, so both internally and externally.

For an even more effective and smooth transition, the CEO is often accompanied by the CDO (Chief Digital Officer), who has digital skills and the knowledge to outline the areas in which changes must be made and translate the CEO’s ideas into digital realities.

Another decision support figure of the CEO is the CIO (Chief Information Officer), who is an expert in IT and communication.

Communicating with employees and other third parties is very important because without the engagement of all the staff, the transformation could seem like something futile and ridiculous, instead of being understood for what it really is, which is necessary and fundamental for survival.

Change

Innovation starts with a change, but first of all, a corporate culture that is open to change is needed, which sees it as an opportunity and a challenge, rather than a burden. Outlining the corporate culture is of paramount importance and it is possible thanks to the staff. After the CEO has defined the values, ideas and principles of the company, it is necessary to hire people who share and adopt them completely and utterly. In this way, a company can become more agile, smart, aimed at problem solving and risk-taker, thanks to the people who make it up. For this reason, “soft skills” are becoming increasingly important, which are more difficult to learn and own than “hard skills”.

This open attitude must be facilitated by appropriate tools and working environments and the guidance of the CEO.

Furthermore, given the complexity and speed with which certain changes occur, it is important to think “out of the box” and to continue experimenting with new solutions, in order to have a wide range of viable options.

Customer Experience

The customer is obviously fundamental, and now more than ever he is an active customer, looking for information on a certain product even before coming into contact with a company. He has been through a Digital Transformation too, consequently he expects the company to have did the same.

It is necessary to understand what the customer’s experience with the company is, during each step of the buyer journey. With digitalization, it is possible to improve and simplify interaction with customers and offer a more satisfying experience while also trying to adapt it to their needs.

This can be done through more efficient customer profiling, market analysis, understanding which tools are best suited to the situation and identifying and improving touchpoints.
